Our Story is Rooted in Family

In 2008, Attorney Dan McKillop established McKillop Law Firm in Sarasota, Florida. After becoming a lawyer, Dan sought to establish his own legal practice, drawing inspiration from his father’s entrepreneurial success with his painting and water-proofing company, McKillop & Son. McKillop Law Firm today honors the tradition of Dan and Ian’s father through both core values and visually with the distinctive burgundy color associated with the earlier business.

While Dan launched McKillop Law Firm in Sarasota, his wife, Julia McKillop, was practicing civil litigation at a small, local firm. Julia’s mentor in those early years was also her father, a seasoned attorney who owned a firm in South Florida. Julia always knew she would one day take the entrepreneurial leap and, in 2009, McKillop Law Firm had grown sufficiently enough to welcome her as a partner.

In 2013, after six years of practicing complex corporate litigation, Dan’s brother, Ian McKillop, joined McKillop Law Firm. Soon after, the team opened a branch office in Jacksonville, specializing in real estate law.

In 2021, Dan and Julia relocated their family to Jacksonville, consolidating McKillop Law Firm under a single roof. While maintaining a significant presence in Southwest Florida and serving clients statewide, McKillop Law Firm is now proudly headquartered in Jacksonville.
